The Trinity of Glen Keen Estate Irish Whiskey:
Purity, Tradition, and Trust
Purity
Our story unfolds from purity, a gift from Mother Nature. Every aspect of the Glen Keen Estate Whiskey creation is pure, culminating in the finishing, final cutting prior to bottling.
The Land
Situated in the West of Ireland, Glen Keen Estate represents the best of the country with unrivalled natural greenery. For centuries, the land has remained untouched by human activities, sheltered from industrial development, and free from pollution of any kind. In fact, the Estate is designated by the European Union as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for its ecological purity as well as its stunning natural and pure green landscape.
The Air
Found on the eastern edge of the wild Atlantic Ocean, Glen Keen Estate enjoys the prevailing westerly wind stream cleansed by 4,800 kilometers of ocean, which carries unpolluted fresh air to the land. This pure air from the Atlantic nurtures a majestic emerald green landscape – and our backyard.
The Water
The westerly prevailing winds from the Atlantic also bring the cleanest of rainfall to Glen Keen Estate, resulting in crystal clear mountain springs. The property enjoys nature’s blessing for its unrivalled water purity, which contributes greatly to the enhancement of our whiskey’s unique flavour.
Tradition
Our traditions are intergenerational, passed down through the family line over centuries. It is our unique brewing tradition that has maintained the fabric and ethos of the Estate’s whiskey.
Heritage of Irish High Kings and Lords
Glen Keen Estate is the home of Bronze Age High Kings, Gaelic Lords, Irish Chieftains, and the ancestral territory of Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley. The ancient forts of Glen Keen’s three Bronze Age Kings still exist today. In 1908, the merging of two great families, the O’Malley’s, descendants of the Pirate Queen, with the O’Grady’s, descendants of Milesius, a king of what is now modern-day Spain, took place to occupy the lands of Glen Keen, furthering the gateway to commerce and trade. The land was chosen for its life spring and poetic landscape, conveying harmony, strength, and wisdom.
A Perfected Methodology
Glen Keen Estate has a whiskey-brewing heritage that stretches back many centuries, supported by its crystal clear water, natural peat, and medicinal plants. Since the 1600s, the O’Grady family has distilled small pot private label whiskey, originally known as poitin. It has been the prestigious tradition of the family to lay down a cask upon the birth of a male heir.
The unique water finishing process, which is known as Glen Keen Proofing, is a stringently controlled procedure. Today, this process makes our whiskey unlike any other on the market.
Trust
Glen Keen Estate is symbolic of Ireland. We are backed by the trust of a nation where reputations are difficult to build. Here trust is earned, not given. We serve as Ireland’s ambassador, welcoming you to our world of emerald green.
Noble Quality
Glen Keen Estate represents one of Ireland and Europe’s oldest and largest estates occupied by the same family since the 1600s, making it a testament to staying power.
Over the centuries, the lands of the Estate have been inhabited by the likes of Irish High Kings, Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley, and prestigious noblemen, making it a place of undeniable regality. Today, in the spirit of exceptional quality, Glen Keen Estate has chosen to work with the award-winning Great Northern Distilleries to capitalise on the family’s brewing tradition, combining world-class modern technology, and our natural unspoilt resources. This collaboration will ensure the creation of a whiskey worthy of aristocracy and connoisseurs alike.
Traceable Authenticity
Every bottle of Glen Keen Estate Whiskey has a unique security number on its neck, which enables you to track and trace its origin. We take authenticity very seriously and know that this innovative element will give you peace of mind about the product’s quality.
Additionally, each and every Glen Keen Estate Whiskey bottle is hand wax-sealed on the Estate by the O’Grady-Powers family. This is to make sure that the bottled whiskey is securely sealed for both safety and spillage. You will enjoy every drop with the knowledge that all necessary safety measures have been taken to safeguard your trust.
Government Endorsement
We are registered with the Irish State Agency for Food Export, Bord Bia, and sponsored by Enterprise Ireland, which is the country’s government organisation responsible for the growth and development of Irish businesses in world markets.
